Any scanning bureau environment will tell you that the greatest cause for scanning delays is the need for documents to be rescanned. All of the main scanner manufacturers now provide image enhancement tools that will capture most poor quality images first time. In addition to the on-board enhancement tools, products like Kofax Virtual ReScan (VRS) allow for images to be "rescanned" without the need for the page to be reloaded into the scanner. Most ReScans are performed automatically with only a small percentage needing manual adjustment - Simply adjust the scanner settings on the fly until an acceptable image is obtained. VRS works with many of the leading desktop scanners as well as a number of high volume production-level scanners. An example of the power of VRS is shown below:
